| INTERNET ADVERTISING & POPUP WINDOWS |
|
Almost
no one objects to the existence of internet advertising. People
in touch with the real world understand that almost nothing
can be done for free. All businesses need a way to get the
word out about their products.
However, there are some things about advertising on the net that are incredibly irritating: People looking for a quick score, those selling smoke and mirrors, and especially those selling porn with no respect for who sees their grotesque ads. One wonders how these people sleep at night.
Ad banners aren't so bad. At least they can be ignored if you're not interested. And, if they're well-designed and the product seems appealing, we often click on them to find out more. |
|
In
recent years, some advertisers have shown their brazen disrespect
for web surfers with especially instrusive types of advertising:
- interstitials
(the ones that come drifting across your screen with lots
of motion and noise, and have tiny little "close"
buttons that you can barely see)
- popups
(the ones that jump up and cover what you're trying to read)
- messenger
pop-ups (the kind that don't even wait for you to open your
browser to assault you).
|
| No
matter what, these people are always looking for new ways to
assault you with their products. And, in self-defense, we find ourselves looking for ways reduce the interruption in our browsing experience, either to block some of the more irritating popup windows...or the more severe of us may have a goal of ZERO popups.. |
| Some
companies have developed products, such as popup removers, which promise to protect you
from such advertising. Some companies even have the gall to
use "messenger spam" to advertise their product which
will block further ads of this type. And, if you want to buy
those products, that's fine. They probably work well. |
| But,
in most cases, there are some simple things you can do to minimize
the delay and irritation which accompany popup ads and other types of intrusive advertising. |
